Woman's Personal Safety & Self Defense will be taught by David Robinson. David is the head instructor of the kung fu program at Shakti Yoga & living arts in Maplewood, NJ. He began teaching Ving Tsun kung fu in 1977. Ving Tsun is one of the most popular styles of Chinese martial art because it is effective, practical, easy to learn, and for the fact that it was invented by a woman.
The founder of Ving Tsun kung fu was a Buddhist nun, named Ng Mui. She was one of the five elders of the world renowned Shaolin Temple in Henan, China.
We feel that a martial art invented by a woman is the ideal basis for our course in Woman's Personal Safety & Self Defense.
The course will cover Awareness: ways to avoid dangerous situations; and Physical Self Defense (i.e.: what to do when danger cannot be avoided).
Awareness
You will learn how to avoid dangerous situations, who is most likely to attack you, and why this knowledge is so important for keeping you safe.
Physical Self Defense
You will learn the four most effective strikes for woman's self defense & how to use them; you will also learn the four most effective targets for woman's self defense & how to hit them.
What to bring: an open mind; a notebook and something to write with; loose, comfortable clothing (gym or yoga attire – no long sleeves).
